Data Analytics for Industrial Control Systems

Abstract:

New HEP projects like the High Luminosity LHC where the data rates will be increased or the future FCC pose new requirements for Industrial Control Systems. In this seminar, we will present the work done by the Industrial Control Systems group in the context of the CERN openlab partnership with Siemens. This work focuses on the evaluation of new technologies like Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and edge devices in combination with advanced data analytics and machine learning techniques to render future control systems more performant and smarter. Future control systems will make use of on-line adaptive condition monitoring based on stream processing, as well as on-line condition-based and predictive maintenance to increase equipment availability and reliability, as well as to reduce the operational and maintenance costs. The presentation will also cover the validation of these technologies through the implementation of proofs of concept for real-life use-cases at CERN.
